FAQs

What genres do you specialize in?

The Quill and Inkwell accepts projects from every shelf of Story’s bookstore, but we specialize in Sci-Fi / Fantasy and all respective sub-genres.

What’s your experience level?

I hold a B.A. in English, am a graduate of a leading international creative writing and editing school, and possess over ten years of writing experience, spanning fiction, nonfiction, and editorial projects.

What are the differences in the types of editing?

I provide all three types of edits here at The Quill and Inkwell. See the table below for more details.

Editorial Service:Description:
Developmental EditingThink “Big Picture”. Developmental edits focus on the macro aspects of Story and fine-tune them to work together. I focus on areas such as structure, plot, arcs, tone, themes, etc.
Line EditingThink “Phrasal”. Line edits cut the fluff, hone the voice, and focus the manuscript into a much leaner and intentional version of itself.
CopyeditingThink “Details”. Copyediting focuses on correcting grammar, spelling, or punctuation missteps, but also help continuity, consistency, fact checking, chronology, etc.
What kind of feedback do you provide?

I provide clear, actionable, and constructive feedback. I won’t just point out the problems. I’ll help solve them in ways that strengthen both the manuscript and the writer’s long-term craft.

How involved will I be in the process?

I’ve got you covered, and I’m always available for an update or if you have questions! Rest assured, when you give me your manuscript, I will treat it with the utmost care and confidentiality. When it’s ready for review, I will contact you with the original copy, a revised manuscript (track changes enabled), an editorial letter, and any promised accessorial documents.

What are the costs of your services?

Prices vary based on service, package, and length of the manuscript. Please refer to the Services & Rates page for detailed price points.

How long does the process take?

Editing time-frames vary depending on manuscript length and if any add-ons were purchased. Generally, it’s safe to assume a pass of edits will take under 6 weeks for a full-length novel. If any unforeseen issues arise, we will contact you regarding any expected delays.

Can you help with publishing and marketing plans?

The Quill and Inkwell does not offer publishing or marketing plans. For now, I am solely focused on delivering high-quality editorial work to my clients.

Who do you work with?

Everyone is welcome at The Quill and Inkwell. I work with writers across every stage of the writer’s journey. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been writing for ten weeks or ten years; I’m here to help your manuscript shine.

What is your confidentiality policy regarding client work?

Manuscripts are all kept in-house, never shared, distributed, or otherwise viewed by anyone outside of The Quill and Inkwell. Please refer to the Privacy Policy for specific details.
